Description:

Recently Voted Best Barbeque in the Desert by Readers of the Desert Sun.
It has been seven years in the making, but restaurant genius Don Callender’s dream concept has opened at last under the auspices of the local Kaiser Restaurant Group. Mr. Callender (of Marie Callender and Babe’s BBQ fame) envisioned a truly Western place where people could hang out and enjoy great drinks, food and music. Unfortunately, failing health prevented him from opening it last year, and he entrusted its operation to the savviest restaurateurs in the Coachella Valley. It opened in early January to rave reviews.

The restaurant is a finely-crafted 21,000 square-foot building in the center of a six-and-a-half-acre property that has been designed and beautifully landscaped for events from weddings to hoe-downs. The high-ceilinged interior and rich dark wood and leather furnishings give the place a clubby “ranch” feeling. Kaiser Morcus and his son Lee scoured the Western states for special chefs to prepare the authentic contemporary Southwestern cuisine and barbeque that is the centerpiece of the menu, as well .

As you would expect, Jackalope Ranch’s indoor saloon and outdoor palapa bar offer an extensive Tequila list, ranging from Blancos (clear, un-aged 100% Blue Agave) and Reposados (aged in oak barrels for 2 months to a year) to Añejos (aged for at least one year) and Extra Añejo/Reservas (aged for more than 3 years). The wine list is extensive and the libation menu includes well-crafted Margaritas (made with fresh hand squeezed lime juice and organic agave nectar) and martinis, as well as several delicious non-alcoholic agua frescas (chilled blends of water or milk with fruit, flowers, or seeds) and licuados (little fruit smoothies). And there’s live music in the saloon every night, so the Ranch is rocking most of the time.
